PLN 60 million for green project implementation!

We are glad to announce that our company Re Alloys obtained a sum exceeding PLN 60 million for its green project implementation

A project financing agreement for “development of an innovative technology for effective use of subgrain in the production process of high-grade silicon and iron alloys (FeSi) along with providing zero-emission energy resource (RES) for this process” has been signed with the National Centre for Research and Development.

Within the project:

      • a technology of full management of the ferrosilicon production process by-products is to be developed,
      • a 35 MW PV installation is to be constructed to generate energy for the production process.

The projects result will be:

      • management of by-products
      • significant reduction of CO2 emission
      • improvement of the production process efficiency
      • independence of the energy market prices
      • participation in the industry transformation

Total cost of the project has been estimated at the level of PLN 168,141,974.22, and the subsidy amount is PLN 61,623,866.15 The project is co-financed by the EU funds within the European Funds for Modern Economy Programme.

The entire group, at the invitation of Belen Calvo Uyarra, EU Ambassador in Rwanda, and Yamina Karitanyi, CEO of RMB, joined the hosts at the round-table discussion concerning strategic cooperation on the Critical Raw Materials between the EU and Rwanda. Katarzyna Janik, LuNa’s Board Member, had the opportunity to present the private sector’s point of view on the integration and value chain of the Critical Raw Materials, as well as challenges the private sector faces in this regard. These consultations of the EU and the private sector representatives, with the participation of the EITI and the EIB, gave a clearer picture of the possibilities of changes, founds, and development in the field of the CRM value chain.

On 25th November, celebrating the Children’s Day in Rwanda, LuNa Smelter invited employees’ children to enjoy refreshments and a tour of their parents’ workplace.

The interest was great and over 40 children showed up at LuNa. We spent a very fruitful Saturday.

On 23rd November 2023,  our company LuNa Smelter had the honour to host the EU Ambassadors’ delegation led by Her Excellency Ms Belen Calvo Uyarra – the Ambassador of the EU to Rwanda.

Ambassadors and Representatives of Belgium, France, Sweden, Denmark, Hungary, and Poland had a chance to visit the smelter facilities, learn about the impact of added value generation in the AGLR, as well as new traceability tools for 3T minerals developed by LuNa. The Company is an active member of the European Partnership for Responsible Minerals (EPRM) and collaborates with different stakeholders on the development of new, sustainable and transparent 3T metals supply chains. LuNa representatives – Ms Katarzyna Janik, and Mr Joseph Butera, presented the Smelter’s expansion plan and its strategy for the reprocessing of tantalum-bearing waste and postproduction slag, a project that is an answer to the recently adopted EU’s Critical Raw Materials Act. LuNa represents a leading European investment in Rwanda and the discussion was held on opportunities for EU investors, practicalities of doing business in Rwanda, as well as challenges to face.

Today, LuNa Smelter and Luma Holding Ltd, represented by Aleksandra Cholewa, are participating in 19th Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Palais des Nations in Geneva as a part of LuNa Smelter’s engagement in the European Partnership for Responsible Minerals (EPRM).

We look forward to connecting with a wider community working to improve mining governance.

Re Alloys planted 3000 trees

Re Alloys employees with their families and friends planted 3000 beech trees in Orzesze – Gardawice.

Our campaign “Go out, plant a tree” attracts more and more people who see the necessity to take environmental actions. This is what our Going Green strategy is like – we act on several dimensions.

    • We carry out our business responsibly by investing in environmentally friendly solutions,
    • We raise environmental awareness among out employees and local community,
    • We educate the youngest members of the community.

Planting campaigns are already a permanent fixture in their calendar – last year they planted 3400 trees.

Dzwola Wind Farm with an award

We are thrilled to announce that the Dzwola Wind Farm has been granted the IJGlobal ESG Award 2023 in the category of wind energy in Europe.

Most of all, the award acknowledges the project’s pioneering role in decarbonising the Polish steel industry.

The Dzwola Wind Farm with a power of 35MW is an essential part of the Going Green strategy pursued by Re Alloys. The main objective of this strategy is to achieve zero emission.

The Dzwola project directly impacts limiting the fossil fuels usage in Poland and the Going Green strategy contributes significantly to the energy transformation of the crucial, yet emission-intensive, steel sector.

Dzwola Wind Farm is currently under construction and COD is planned for Q4 2024.
